Same-Sex Union = Polygamy

Santorum is an ardent, outspoken opponent of gay marriage, favoring an amendment to the Constitution that would define marriage as solely between a man and a woman. He received a rough welcome from a group of college Republicans in Concord -- and it likely didn’t help matters when he compared a same-sex union to polygamy.

"Are we saying everyone should have the right to marry? So anyone can marry anyone else?" Santorum asked, according to a video by NBC News. "So anybody can marry several people?"

  1. I will say that Santorum almost had a moment:

"We're going to have a civil discussion or were going to move on to another question," he said at one point. Confronted by one critic, he fired back, "What about three men?"

  2. The question is legitimate and is, at its heart, a major problem with the push for same-sex unions: on what basis then, do we or can we deny any other potential arrangement of individuals from demanding the same concessions? Absolutely all the arguments used by those who push the agenda that doesn't exist can be used by everyone else, from polygamists to the incestuous. So as Santorum said, then marriage becomes whatever anyone wants it mean, which means it will mean absolutely nothing. Just how is this position flawed?

  3. Marshall,

Mariage between two people is not even the discussion as polygamy. Its a bit like saying, you like the color blue, therefore you like the color orange.

Actually, I embrace all the agruments made by those against same-sex marriage. Those arguments tend to show some sort of discumfort with letting people live their lives.

  4. So you're saying that you're against letting people live their lives? That would be the result of embracing our arguments, considering you think we'd be interfering with their decision to live as they choose. Our arguments are two: they put their everlasting souls at risk on the spiritual level, and they put our culture at risk on the earthly level. They can live as they choose. They want far more than merely the freedom to do that, which they already totally have.

But if they get their way with their current agenda, there is no way every other possible arrangement of people who wish the same recognition can be denied. What about this aren't you getting? It's not as you say, that if you like the color blue then you likely also like the color orange. It's that if you like one color, you'll have to like other colors based on the reasons why you wish to legislate love for the first color. You won't be able to NOT give the same considerations because there are none that cannot and do not apply to the other.

    1. Really Marshall? You are looking out for another persons ever lasting soul? Thats rich. Let me know when you find a soul. I'll let all the scientists know.

Your bit about putting culture at risk is your own hangup. For some strange reason you want to be in the bedroom of homosexuals. Thats more than a little odd. We are only here for a short time. Just let people live. Thats all I ask.

"that if you like the color blue then..."

      Talk about rambling off topic.
